Manuka Honey is New Zealand's most famous honey of recent years. The native Maori people of New Zealand used the Manuka plant for making many medicines that they claimed had great benefits for the human body. Manuka Honey is gathered from the Manuka tree (leptospermum scoparium). The Manuka tree is a native tree that grows to around three meters high, and is common in many parts of New Zealand. Main production areas are in the undeveloped areas of the North and South Islands. The Manuka tree flowers from late September until early January.
